Anthony Joshua and Andy Ruiz Jr reveal where they want rematch to take place; Team AJ to make final decision

Anthony Joshua has declared he ‘would love’ a rematch with Andy Ruiz Jr in the UK, but the new champion wants the fight to happen in the United States or Mexico.

The Brit was dethroned at the hands of his Mexican-American underdog on Saturday night in New York, being floored four times before a seventh-round stoppage.

In the immediate aftermath, AJ and his team made it very clear they wanted a second fight, with promoter Eddie Hearn confirming on Tuesday that the contractual rematch clause had been activated.

Joshua reacted to this news in a video on his YouTube channel, in which he said: “Congratulations to Andy Ruiz.

“He has six months or so to be champion because the belts go in the air.

“He’s gonna have to defend his title against myself.

“Within our contract we added some clauses, as you do, so naturally we added a rematch clause.

“I would not mind if it was in New York again, I wouldn’t mind if it was in England.

“As I said, I was stopping off in New York and I was gonna come back home as well so I’d love it to be in England.”

Hearn told ESPN that Joshua’s side will have the final say on the location of the rematch, as is set out in the terms of the original contract.

Meanwhile, Ruiz told the Jimmy Kimmel show: “Of course, if he wants a rematch, I’ll give it to him.

“I’m willing to go over there or if they’re willing to come over here, we’re still in negotiations.

“I want it here [America] or Mexico.”
