Arsenal’s Calum Chambers could miss the rest of the season after he suffered a serious knee injury against Chelsea.
The defender went down in agony at the Emirates 20 minutes into Sunday’s Premier League clash and had to be taken off.
The Daily Mail report he has undergone a series of tests and the early indications are that he has suffered damage to his anterior cruciate ligament.
If it is as bad as feared then he will miss the rest of the 2019-20 Premier League season.
It would be a big blow for Chambers, who has worked hard to get regular football with Arsenal.
Last season, he was loaned to Fulham where he made 33 appearances in all competitions as they were relegated to the Championship.
The 24-year-old has made 18 appearances for the Gunners and was starting to establish himself as a key member of the squad.
The injury will also be a major disappointment for new manager Mikel Arteta as he is already short of defensive options.
With Chambers likely to be sidelined for a significant amount of time, it could force Arsenal’s hand in the January transfer window.
A centre-back will be top of their wishlist and they have already been linked with a £40million move for RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano.
