The Spaniard will stay the Wanda Metropolitano when his loan spell ends in 2020
Alvaro Morata will join Atletico Madrid on a permanent deal from Chelsea when his loan expires, the Premier League club have confirmed.
The Spain striker is currently on loan in the Spanish capital until June 2020 after he failed to convince former Blues boss Maurizio Sarri of his abilities.
After arriving from Real Madrid in 2017 for a fee of around £60million, the Spaniard initially lit up the Premier League.
But his form tailed off and he was sidelined by Antonio Conte and then Sarri.
Now Atletico have confirmed the Spaniard will join permanently when his current loan deal ends next summer.
After making his debut in February, Morata featured a total of 16 times and scored six goals, revealing how desperate he was to return to his native country.
Former teammate Eden Hazard has also swapped west London for Madrid, but instead made a £130m move to rivals Real.
New Blues manager Frank Lampard has promised to use the club’s academy graduates, with Tammy Abraham excelling on loan at Aston Villa last season.
A two-window transfer ban imposed by FIFA means the 21-year-old is likely to get a chance to lead the line under Lampard.
