‘David Silva is one of the Premier League’s best foreign players EVER’ – Ally McCoist hails Manchester City mi

David Silva will leave Manchester City as ‘a Premier League great’ and one of the best foreign stars to ever play in England, Ally McCoist has told talkSPORT.

The Spanish midfielder has confirmed he will leave the Etihad Stadium after ten years when his contract expires at the end for the upcoming season.

Silva has been open about his desire to return to his homeland after his wildly successful time with the Blues, where he has won four Premier League titles, two FA Cups and four League Cups – and completed a historic domestic treble last term.

Tributes have poured in for the playmaker since he made the announcement on Tuesday.

And Scotland legend McCoist lauded him as a ‘magical wee footballer’.

Speaking on Wednesday’s Sports Breakfast, Ally said: “He’s definitely one of the best foreign imports in the Premier League, I don’t think there’s any doubt about that.

“He’s just an absolutely magical wee footballer.

“He’s very comfortable on the ball, always seems to have a little bit of space, he makes things happen. He sees it, he really sees it. His vision and awareness of people around him, his opposition and his own team is fantastic. He’s just got a great football brain.

Silva has been pulling the strings at the Etihad for almost a decade since his £26m arrival from Valencia in 2010

“It’s no coincidence a talented like that has achieved what he has achieved in the game.

“The Premier League won’t be a better place without him.”

Unbelievably, Silva has only made the PFA team of the year twice in his nine years in English football so far.

“That surprises me, definitely,” added McCoist.

“One of the reasons for that would be there are obviously individuals in other teams who have had great seasons, but I don’t think these individuals have had the longevity David Silva has had.

“Over their careers they’d probably have one of two fantastic seasons, where David Silva has showed a level of consistency, four titles, that’s remarkable really.

“I don’t think he’s underrated, I think he’s a tremendous player.

“Once his season finishes and he leaves Manchester City I think people will quite rightly give him the send if deserves and he will go down as a Premier League great.”
