The festive period always piques interest, while many fans also look to the end of the campaign as they try and predict how tough their run-in will be.

But what does the past tell us about what every club’s opening fixture might be?

talkSPORT.com took a look at each team’s first match in their last five Premier League season and made five predictions based on the trends.

  1. Arsenal will be at home and Tottenham Hotspur will be away
  2. West Ham United will face a team who finished in the top six last season
  3. Crystal Palace will face a newly-promoted side
  4. Everton will face one of Leicester, Watford, or Bournemouth
