Manchester United have been told to sell Paul Pogba to fund a summer rebuild of their squad – which includes a mega-money bid for Chelsea star N’Golo Kante!
Tony Cascarino, the former Blues and Republic of Ireland striker, has discussed United’s dream summer transfers in his Times column, and he claims the Red Devils must start off by cashing in on Pogba.
“If he wants a new challenge then I would let him go,” Cascarino writes. “Like Romelu Lukaku, if Pogba was performing and happy he’d be a great asset. But, as it is, both players are inconsistent star names who are looking elsewhere and, crucially, they are players United can sell for big money.
“They won’t be able to move on the likes of Phil Jones and Chris Smalling but they will have clubs willing to pay for Pogba and Lukaku.
“They should get a big fee for Pogba and start a rebuilding job which will take at least two summer windows.
“Yes they need to bring in quality but they need to transform the mentality of the club. Too many players — and I think Pogba is one of them — play like they are doing Manchester United a favour.
“Well they’re not: United need players who are desperate and hungry.”
Pogba admitted last week he is considering leaving Old Trafford this summer for a new challenge, with Real Madrid and his former club Juventus both keen on the France World Cup winner.
Lukaku, the centre-forward, is also expected to depart United over the next few months with personal terms said to have been agreed with Inter Milan.
The club are likely to raise serious funds if they cash in on both Pogba and Lukaku, though they will have to reinvest a lot of the money raised back into Solskjaer’s squad – especially to add quality and depth to the midfield.

Ander Herrera’s departure at the expiration of his contract has already been announced, and if Pogba leaves as well United will be without two of their first-choice midfielders next season.
Cascarino adds: “Bringing in players with potential, like Daniel James, is wise but they need quality in midfield badly, especially if Pogba leaves as well as Ander Herrera. Right now they would be starting the season with an ageing Nemanja Matic, Fred and 22-year-old Scott McTominay.
“I would go for a big name first, someone like Marco Verratti from Paris Saint-Germain or, and I know it’s unlikely, put in a massive bid for Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante.
“More realistic options might be Wilfred Ndidi from Leicester but they desperately need a clever, defensive-minded player to protect the back four.
“They also need some flair and creativity and if Real Madrid come in for Pogba then United should be asking about Isco and Luka Modric.
“Isco is a brilliant player who might struggle to get in the Real team with all their new signings and the same could be said for Modric who, while 34 in September, would be brilliant for United for two seasons.”
