Lampard is hugely popular at Derby after guiding them to the Championship play-off final in his debut managerial season.

When asked who the boyhood Rams fan and former One Direction singer would want to replace Lampard, Horan told talkSPORT: “Big Sam’s free, I wouldn’t mind that! He could get us out of a bit of trouble.

“I don’t know. You want someone young again, we’ve got a young squad with a good mix of young and old [players].

“It would be a shame to see it go to waste, but I’d like to see someone young be given a go again.”

Allardyce has been out of work since being sacked by Everton last May.

The former England manager has won promotion to the Premier League with Bolton and West Ham in the past.

Reports have linked Charlton manager Lee Bowyer with the Derby job if Lampard leaves for Chelsea.

The 42-year-old’s reputation is growing after ending the Addicks’ three-year exile from the Championship in his first full season as a manager.

Niall Horan will be playing in Soccer Aid for Unicef, which will be broadcast live on ITV on Sunday June 16, starting at 6.30pm. To donate to Unicef, visit socceraid.org.uk
