‘Rangers will slip up’ – Alan Brazil confident Celtic will win Scottish Premiership despite Old Firm derby def

Rangers may have won the battle in pursuit of the Scottish Premiership title against rivals Celtic but it’s the Hoops that will win the war.

This is the view of former Scotland striker and talkSPORT host Alan Brazil, who gave his two cents after the latest Old Firm clash on December 29.

The match produced a somewhat surprising result as Rangers claimed their first win at Celtic Park since 2010.

Steven Gerrard’s men won 2-1 thanks to goals from Ryan Kent and Nikola Katic in an incident-filled Glasgow derby.

Ryan Christie had a penalty saved by Allan McGregor when the game was goalless.

Meanwhile, Gers’ temperamental striker Alfredo Morelos was sent off in the last-minute of stoppage-time – his second dismissal in Old Firm clashes and the seventh time he has been given his marching orders since the start of last season.

Big Al labelled the Colombian a ‘clown’ for seeing red once again, but praised Rangers for their performance.

He said: “I’m not making excuses, Rangers deserved it.

“To be honest they were the better team in the [Scottish League] Cup final so they went into the game knowing that if they were at their best they could get a result and they got a result.

“Celtic had two cleared off the line, missed a penalty but for a good hour Rangers were better.

“Midfield – Celtic have got to stop the midfield and they just cannot defend set-pieces despite having two big centre-halves. [Kristoffer] Ajer – he doesn’t head the ball!

“Morelos again is a clown. I don’t know what’s wrong with the guy.”

This could be a huge breakthrough for Rangers as they seek to win their first league title since 2011.

They are two points behind Celtic in second but have a game in hand on the leaders.

It’s also a sweet piece of revenge following their Scottish League Cup final defeat to Celtic in a game Rangers dominated earlier in December.

But Al is still confident the Scottish Premiership will go back to where it’s been for the last eight seasons.

He added: “No, I still think Celtic will still win the title. Still two points clear. (Game in hand).

“Don’t you worry, Rangers will slip up.

“What amazed me about the table was seeing Motherwell in third. Wow!

“I’m going to get slaughtered by Celtic fans for this but we need Rangers back. We need a fight right to the end.”
