Riyad Mahrez has threatened to ruin Christmas for Manchester City fans everywhere by suggesting Fernandinho will leave the club this summer.
Fernandinho’s current deal expires at the end of the season and there is currently no indication over whether the 34-year-old will extend his stay.
Until now, that is, after Mahrez appeared to spill the beans on the Brazilian’s future.
Poor Benjamin Mendy doesn’t know where to look as the winger seems to suggest Fernandinho told everyone he would be off at the end of the season during an awkward social media video.
The pair were asked by Sky Sports: “Who announced in the summer that this will be their final season at City?”
Mahrez, keen to win the quiz, quickly answered with ‘David [Silva] and Fernandinho’.
Mendy’s reaction appeared to confirm Mahrez had blown Fernandinho’s secret.
The defender put his hand over his mouth before smiling at his teammate as if to say, ‘WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?’
Silva has already confirmed this will be his last season at Man City following ten glorious years at the club.
Like Fernandinho, the 33-year-old has remained a key figure at the Etihad this season despite his age.
So it would hardly be surprising if, despite his importance, Fernandinho was also considered too old for a new deal.
It’s just a shame we had to find out like this, on Christmas Eve!
