The body of the 24-year-old has been found following a three-day search
Switzerland international Florijana Ismaili has been confirmed dead following a swimming accident in Lake Como.
The 24-year-old’s body has been found at a depth of 204 metres after she was missing for three days.
According to reports, Ismaili failed to resurface after jumping into the lake, 16 miles from the Swiss border.
She had visited the holiday destination with a team-mate, who alerted the authorities following the incident.
He tweeted: “I am deeply shocked by the death of Florijana Ismaili.
“My family and I would like to express our condolences to the Ismaili family and the near ones.”
Local fire fighters had been looking for the footballer using an autonomous underwater vehicle which could search down to depths of 200m, while divers were also deployed.
BSC Young Boys released a statement on Sunday and a video showed the first team and staff forming a heart in training to show she was in their thoughts.
The club confirmed they were in touch with Ismaili’s family.
