Tottenham have issued a ban to the supporter who threw a cup at Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga during Spurs’ 2-0 defeat on Sunday.
In an ill-tempered London derby marred by alleged racism towards Antonio Rudiger and Heung-min Son, Arrizabalaga narrowly avoided being hit by a missile during the second-half.
A Tottenham statement read: “We can confirm that we have identified and issued an immediate ban to the individual responsible for throwing a cup at Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga during Sunday’s Premier League home fixture.
“We shall continue to take the strongest action possible against anyone found to be behaving in this way.”
The statement added: “Our investigation into the alleged racist abuse against Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger remains ongoing.”
Rudiger was allegedly the victim of monkey chants from the stands and three announcements were made in the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium reminding fans there is ‘no place for racism in the game.
Meanwhile, a Chelsea fan was reportedly arrested for allegedly racially abusing Tottenham player Son.
Rudiger took to Twitter late on Sunday urging for the fight against discrimination not to be ‘forgotten again in a couple of days’.
“It is really sad to see racism again at a football match, but I think it’s very important to talk about it in public. If not, it will be forgotten again in a couple of days (as always),” he said.
“I don’t want to involve Tottenham as an entire club into this situation as I know that just a couple of idiots were the offenders. I got a lot of supportive messages on social media from Spurs fans as well in the last hours – thank you a lot for this.
“I really hope that the offenders will be found and punished soon, and in such a modern football ground like the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with dozens of TV and security cameras, it must be possible to find and subsequently punish them.
“If not, then there must have been witnesses in the stadium who saw and heard the incident. It’s just such a shame that racism still exists in 2019. When will this nonsense stop?”
