With Mike Remmers absent from practice on Saturday, second-year offensive lineman Lucas Niang got all of the work at right tackle. This comes just a day after Niang replaced Remmers for a few short plays. He seemed poised for swing tackle duty after Friday’s practice. On Saturday, he got a chance to put it all to the test.
Niang, who is virtually a rookie after opting out of the 2020 NFL season, had his up and down moments during the course of practice. His first play of the day was a bust, but he bounced back later in practice, holding his own on the edge against Frank Clark and Chris Jones. Even without pads, the run game still appears to be the strength of Niang’s game.
Who knows when the veteran Remmers will return to practice, but Niang is certainly taking advantage of repetitions with the first-team offense.

Even without pads, fun watching the right side of the OL during this full team drill. Lucas Niang held his own on passing plays against Chris Jones, Frank Clark and even Derick Nnadi, who lined wide on a play.
RG Trey Smith stifled a blitzing LB Willie Gay on another pass play.

Again, can’t stress enough, no pads, but Lucas Niang, Trey Smith and Creed Humphrey on the line in 1st team offense today .. look pretty solid during run offense 11v11 period #Chiefs
