I SPOKE WITH THE PARENT OF A TRANSGENDER TEENAGER AS WELL AS A DOCTOR AND THEY SAY THAT THEY WERE RELIEVED THAT THE GOVERNOR VETOED HOUSE BILL 1570, BUT THEY SAY THEIR FIGHT IS NOT OVER YET AS THE STATE LEGISLATURE IS EXPECTED TO OVERTURN THIS VETO AS EARLY AS TOMORROW. FOR THE PAST EIGHT MONTHS I HAVE BEEN ON HORMONES AND IT’S BEEN AMAZING GOING GREAT. SO FOR THIS BILL TO POSSIBLY TAKE THAT AWAY AND REALLY ALL THE PROGRESS I’VE MADE AND EVERYTHING. THAT’S LITTLE SCARY 15 YEAR OLD DYLAN BRANDT CAME OUT AS TRANSGENDERED NEARLY TWO YEARS AGO WITH THE SUPPORT OF HIS PARENTS AND DOCTORS. HE BEGAN GENDER-AFFIRMING THERAPIES AND STARTED HORMONE TREATMENTS DURING THE PANDEMIC. HE HAS COME INTO HIS OWN HIS CONFIDENCE. HE’S HAPPY. HE’S HEALTHY. I’M CHOOSING IN THIS MOMENT TO REMAIN OPTIMISTIC, MAYBE CAUTIOUSLY SO BUT STILL OPTIMISTIC AND THAT THERE’S STILL TIME DESPITE GOVERNOR HUTCHINSON VETOING HOUSE BILL 1570 THIS AFTERNOON THE BILL WITH OVERWHELMING SUPPORT IN BOTH CHAMBERS OF THE STATE LEGISLATURE AND THE VETO IS EXPECTED TO BE OVERTURNED IN THE COMING DAYS. YEAH PEOPLE ARE GOING TO BELIEVE THAT WE’RE A BUNCH OF BIGOTS AND RACISTS AND HATEFUL AND ALL THAT STUFF WHEN WE PROMOTE WHAT IS BEST POLICY FOR PROTECTING KIDS. I’M WILLING TO BUILD THAT, YOU KNOW TO BEAR THAT BURDEN IN ORDER TO PUT FOURTH POLITIC PROTECTS KIDS. THIS BUILD IS NOT PROTECT CHILDREN BECAUSE MOST CHILDREN DO NOT DEAL WITH THIS PARTICULAR ISSUE. IT SCARES TO THINK ABOUT LEGISLATION THAT DICTATES LEGALLY WHAT CONVERSATIONS I CAN HAVE WITH MY PATIENTS BEHIND CLOSED DOORS AS THE STATE AND THE COUNTRY WAIT TO SEE HOW THE LEGISLATURE HANDLES THE VETOED BILL. THE BRANDS ARE ASKING THOSE WHO SUPPORT THE TRANSGENDER COMMUNITY TO CONTINUE TO BE VOCAL. WE’RE NOT DONE. WE STILL NEED TO REACH OUT TO OUR LAWMAKERS AND LET THEM KNOW TO TO NOT OVERTURN THIS THIS VETO THAT THIS IS NOT WHAT IS IN THE BEST INTEREST OF TRANS TEENS. IT’S NOT IN THE BEST INTEREST OF THEIR FAMILIES AND IT’S NOT IN THE BEST INTEREST OF ARKANSAS. SO STATE SENATOR, BOB BALLENGER TELLS ME THE ARKANSAS HOUSE IS EXPECTED TO CALL FOR AN OVERRIDE OF THE VETO AS EARLY AS TOMORROW AT THE START OF SESSION THAT’S AROUND ONE O’CLOCK AND IF THIS PASSES THROUGH THE HOUSE, THEN THE STATE SENATE WILL BE ABLE TO WEIGH IN ON IF THIS VETO SHOULD BE OVERRUN AND SHOULD BE OVERTURNED. WE WON’T KNOW AGAIN UNTIL AT LEAST TOMORROW, BUT BALLINGER SAYS THE SENATE LIKELY WILL NOT BREAK FOR THE DAY UNTIL THIS VETO OVERRIDE BILL COMES TO THEM REPORTING.
