What did Kane say?
In an interview with Gary Neville on The Overlap, Kane was asked whether he had a crossroads moment coming up at Tottenham.
The England striker replied: “I think so. I think it’s definitely a conversation to be had with the club. Yeah, like you say, I want to be playing in the biggest games.
“The biggest moments… I hope that we can have that conversation.
“I’m sure that [chief executive Daniel Levy] will want to set out the plan of where he sees it but ultimately it’s going to be down to me and how I feel and what’s going to be the best for me and my career this moment in time.”
He added: “I’m not sure how that conversation is going to go… He might be thinking, ‘If I could get £100 million for you, why not?’ I’m not going to be worth that after the next two or three years.”
Why does Kane want a summer transfer?
Kane has wanted to leave Tottenham for some time.
It is understood that the 27-year-old believes he has a gentleman’s agreement with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy from last summer. Manchester City enquired after Kane in the summer of 2020 but Levy turned them down. Kane wanted to go but was told by Levy to give him one more year.
Kane believes that this entitles him to a move this summer, but Levy is not going to give Kane what he wants.
What will Tottenham do next?
The Spurs hierarchy were deeply unimpressed with the timing of a story being broken by Sky Sports on Monday evening, believing it was an unwelcome distraction at the start of a crunch week for the club.
Tottenham wanted to keep the whole club’s focus on those last two matches, and securing a top six finish in the Premier League. They lost the first of two to Aston Villa on Wednesday night.
They even issued a barely-veiled rebuke to Kane, reminding him that there is still football left to be played. “Our focus is on finishing the season as strongly as possible,” Tottenham said. “That’s what everyone should be focused on.”
How has Kane performed this season?
Kane has enjoyed another superb campaign despite Tottenham’s struggles.
The England captain has scored 22 times and made 13 assists in the Premier League this season, more goal contributions than any other player.
He is also leading the race for the Premier League’s Golden Boot with Mohamed Salah.
