Tony Cascarino has slammed West Ham’s FA Cup exit to West Brom on Saturday.
The Hammers were dumped out of the competition in the fourth round thanks to Conor Townsend’s early strike for the Championship club.
It was the third successive time West Ham have suffered FA Cup exits to lower league opposition after previous upsets to AFC Wimbledon and Wigan.
The home defeat to West Brom piled the pressure on Hammers boss David Moyes, who has lost three of his last four games in charge.
Cascarino claimed West Ham were playing ‘like a testimonial team’ against the Baggies.
He told Sunday’s Weekend Sports Breakfast: “One of the worst things you can say about a team is when they play games like testimonials.
“That’s what I saw yesterday. Watching a team play like a testimonial [side], not an FA Cup tie, not a Premier League match, they were playing like a testimonial team.
“They’ve been guilty West Ham, and a lot of players here at this particular moment have played cup ties against lower opposition over the years and been beaten.”
It does not get any easier for West Ham, who host unbeaten Premier League leaders Liverpool on Wednesday.
The Hammers are only out of the relegation zone on goal difference, however, a heavy loss to Jurgen Klopp’s men could see them drop into the bottom three.
Moyes admitted his players are not scoring enough goals, despite the club spending £45million on Sebastien Haller last summer, and wants his side to become harder to beat.
He said: “I came with the same problem last time, we were in a difficult position and it has not changed.
“What I need to do is find something which can give us inspiration. For example the last time Marko Arnautovic gave us inspiration, someone who could score, who we could play in behind. He gave us a runner, something different.
“But the one thing you have to be is hard to beat. If you’re not hard to beat then the other team will find opportunities to score against us.
“At the moment we don’t necessarily look like we have got loads of goals, so we have to find a way to be much tougher to beat at the moment, and we were too easy to play against.”
