Clarke Schmidt, RHP

Injury: Right common flexor tendon strain.

Latest: Schmidt was slated to throw 40 pitches between two simulated innings Saturday, Boone said. If that goes well, Schmidt could face live hitters next. Boone didn’t know exactly when Schmidt might be able to make his first minor-league rehab start, but it doesn’t seem far off. Schmidt — whom Baseball America ranks as the Yankees’ second-best pitching prospect — suffered the injury at the start of spring training and has been out since.

Luis Severino, RHP

Injury: Groin strain, Tommy John surgery

Latest: “He’s been running,” Boone said. “He’s been throwing. Possibly by the end of next week he could be on the mound, it could be a few days after that. But probably in the next week to 10 days, he could potentially be on the mound.” The Yankees believe Severino could return by late July or early August. He also hasn’t pitched in a big-league game this season.

Corey Kluber, RHP

Injury: Strained shoulder

Latest: Kluber played catch on the field with Yankees strength and conditioning head Eric Cressey, who’s also the two-time All-Star’s personal trainer. Kluber hasn’t thrown from a distance farther than 75 feet yet. “Really has been doing that but hasn’t gone to the stage where he’s really stretching out as of yet,” Boone said.
