UEFA had accused the Italian giants of violating the spending regulations

AC Milan have been suspended from all European competition for the 2019/20 season after being found guilty of breaking Financial Fair Play regulations.

The Italian giants qualified for the Europa League after finishing fifth in Serie A last term, but they have been banned from taking part by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

UEFA had accused Milan of breaching Financial Fair Play rules with regard to their spending – and CAS ruled in favour of the governing body.

It said in a statement: “AC Milan is excluded from UEFA club competitions of the sporting season 2019-2020.”

Their place in the Europa League is now likely to go to Torino, who finished seventh in Serie A last season, which means their season will start with the final qualifying round for the competition’s group stages on July 25.

Milan were only able to take part in last season’s Europa League after persuading CAS that their finances would improve under new ownership.

UEFA initially gave AC Milan a two-year FFP ban last summer but the club successfully appealed against that sanction at CAS, only for the seven-time European champions to be referred to UEFA’s financial watchdog again in April.

FFP rules states that any club making losses beyond the permitted limits over a three-year period face possible sanctions.
