In the absence of a permanent skipper, Xhaka will isntead write an article as a voice from the dressing room.

When quizzed over the Gunners’ next permanent captain, Emery said: “We are changing players at the last moment and with Laurent Koscielny the main captain and five days ago he left.

“Now we have finished the transfer market but for now it is open in other countries and now the next 20-25 days will leave some players from us. That is the reason I want to close our squad clearly.

“At the moment we have three captains – Xhaka, Nacho and Mesut – and I want to take two more.”

Aaron Ramsey, Petr Cech and Koscielny captained Arsenal at times last season, but the trio are no longer at the club.
