This season’s first piece of major silverware will be won today as Aston Villa take on Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final.

Villa beat Leicester in the semi-finals thanks to Trezeguet’s last minute winner in their 3-2 aggregate victory.
City, meanwhile, survived a scare to see off rivals Manchester United by the same scoreline over two legs.
City have won the League Cup in four of the last six seasons and will be confident of lifting the trophy once again.
Villa are just a point above the relegation zone in the Premier League having lost their last three games.
Can Dean Smith’s men put their difficult league campaign to one side and pull off a huge surprise? Or will Pep Guardiola and co storm to yet another cup final win?

Aston Villa vs Man City: What has been said?
Aston Villa boss Dean Smith: “I keep speaking to players about how winning trophies has got lost along the way, simply because the success of the Premier League and the finances on offer.
“We all know that we need to stay in the Premier League, but winning trophies is what we go into sport for. We want to win football games and titles, and this is one of them.
“We’ve got a proud history in this competition, winning it five times, and I’d love to be the manager who wins it for the sixth time.
“This is a cup final and this is a trophy up for grabs that will place you in the history books of Aston Villa.
“This is an opportunity for ourselves to make history for the football club.”
Smith added: “I have so much respect for Pep Guardiola – not only as a coach but as a person – and the way he gets his team playing.
“They’re human beings and human beings can be fallible. We’ll be pushing them all the way.
“We’re massive underdogs, but sometimes I like that title and we’re going to have a good scrap.”

John McGinn, Wesley and Tom Heaton remain out for Villa while Anwar El Ghazi is a doubt.
Villa boss Dean Smith said a number of his players had ‘played their way out’ of the cup final after poor performance in their defeat at Southampton last weekend.
Aymeric Laporte had to be taken off injured against Real Madrid in the first half and is a major doubt.
Leroy Sane is not expected to be in the squad but is nearing full fitness again.
Raheem Sterling and Sergio Aguero began on the bench in Spain and are expected to start at Wembley.
