Manchester United have raised their offer for Bruno Fernandes to €55million euros (£46.6m), plus a series of add-ons, according to reports.
The Red Devils may have finally met Sporting’s valuation of the 25-year-old midfielder following a dramatic day in the transfer saga.
Earlier on Tuesday, it was reported that Barcelona were interested in the Portugal international but only with a view to sending him on loan to Valencia – in exchange for their striker Rodrigo.
However, according to Sky Sports, Ed Woodward has finally agreed a deal with Sporting’s director Hugo Viana after weeks of negotiations which could see United pay an initial fee of €55m plus add-ons for the playmaker.
The Primeira Liga outfit would receive a further €10m from United if Fernandes achieves what are considered easily reachable targets and an additional €15m euros if more difficult targets are met – including if the Portuguese wins the Ballon d’Or.
The Times report that the player will most travel to London on Thursday to undergo his medical at Old Trafford.
Fernandes has had another superb campaign in the Primeira Liga, netting 15 goals and adding 14 assists in 28 matches this season.
And on Monday, Sporting boss Jorge Silas admitted that he did not know whether Fernandes had played his last match for the club.
“I can’t confirm it [if Fernandes made his last appearance against Maritimo], I would like him to stay,” Silas told reporters post-match.
“Right now I don’t know if he will stay or not, but I would like to count on him at least until the end of the season.
“Bruno Fernandes is a different player, he sees things that no one sees. Being further back and seeing these movements, the defence begins to decline.
“Any team that had Bruno Fernandes in Portugal would suffer if they lost him. If so we will have to look for solutions.”
