Crystal Palace face the short trip to London rivals Tottenham this weekend, with the Eagles out to avenge the 2-0 defeat they suffered at White Hart Lane back in April in what was Spurs’ first game at their new £1bn stadium.
Saturday is GameDay on talkSPORT and we’ll be bringing you live coverage of the London derby at 3pm, in between Liverpool vs Newcastle and Norwich vs Manchester City.
Roy Hodgson can have no complaints whatsoever with how his side have fared in 2019, with only Man City, Liverpool and Arsenal accumulating more points than the Eagles in this calendar year.
Hodgson has already led his side to a stunning 2-1 victory at Manchester United this season – becoming the first Crystal Palace manager to beat the Red Devils in the Premier League.
It also ended a run of 23 games – dating back to May 1991 – without a win for the south Londoners against the European giants.
Palace have won seven Premier League away games since the turn of the year, scoring 22 goals in the process – a feat only bettered by Pep Guardiola’s City.
In terms of facing the ‘Big Six’ in the Premier League – Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham – the Eagles have more than held their own in recent seasons.
In fact, since the start of 2016/17, the south Londoners have won away against five of the big six – with Tottenham the only leading team they haven’t beaten on their travels.
Palace were unbeaten against Spurs’ rivals Arsenal last season too, securing a sensational 3-2 victory at the Emirates in April which in turn dented Unai Emery’s men’s top four hopes.
Given their fine form in 2019, few would bet against them adding Tottenham to their list of scalps on Saturday.
