Diego Maradona: Argentina legend will be discharged within the next few days

Argentina legend Diego Maradona will be discharged within the next few days after having successful brain surgery.

Maradona, who led his country to World Cup triumph in 1986, had an operation for possible bleeding on his brain earlier in November.

His physician, Dr Leopold Luque, said the 60-year-old was kept in hospital after suffering withdrawal symptoms caused by alcohol dependency.

“Diego wants to go home and we are evaluating his discharge,” Luque said.

Maradona was admitted to the Ipensa clinic in Buenos Aires last week with anaemia and dehydration.

Luque said Maradona was likely to be discharged “tomorrow or the next day”.

“We’ll talk about where he goes later but for now we know that Diego is doing very well,” he added.
