Dillian Whyte reportedly tested positive for two metabolites of the anabolic steroid dianabol before his win over Oscar Rivas on Saturday night.

It was reported on Wednesday that the Brit was informed of the issue three days prior to his fight with Rivas, though at first the exact substances were unknown.

Now though, it’s claimed by Boxing Scene that Whyte returned a sample to UKAD which included epimethandienone and hydroxymethandienone – which are by-products of the body breaking down dianabol.

This anabolic steroid is often taken orally in tablet form, though in this instance the amount found in the fighter’s sample was very small, which suggests it could have been ingested as part of a supplement.

However, it’s understood that this will be irrelevant according to the WADA code which UKAD adheres to.

The initial story stated that UKAD told Whyte, his promoter Matchroom Boxing and the British Boxing Board of Control of the results on Wednesday, July 17.

However, the fighter asked for his B sample to be tested, as is his right.

UKAD do not sanction boxers for PED breaches until the full adjudication process is complete, including B sample testing, and subsequent hearings by the NADP – National Anti-Doping Panel.

This meant that the BBBofC had little option but to allow him to fight.

Whyte’s promoter Eddie Hearn did not deny anything in his initial response.

He posted: “Further to reports I can confirm that both Dillian Whyte and Oscar Rivas were subject to extensive VADA and UKAD testing for their bout.

“Both fighters were cleared to fight by both bodies and the BBBofC.”
