Ben Stokes appeared to call a spectator a ‘four-eyed c***’ after he was dismissed in the fourth Test against South Africa.

The England all-rounder has been a thorn in South Africa’s side throughout the series but this time the hosts got him early.

He edged Anrich Nortje to Rassie Van Der Dussen at slip after making just two in the first innings.

As the England vice-captain was walking off the field he appeared to take exception to something that was said by someone in the crowd.

He was captured on camera apparently mouthing: “Come say it to me outside the ground. F****** four-eyed c***.”

The clip was played out by Sky Sports several times before they later apologised for the bad language any viewers may have heard.

Stokes could be fined part of his match fee for the incident.

England started off the first day of the fourth Test well with openers Zak Crawley and Dom Sibley putting on a hundred run partnership for the first wicket.

Sibley was the first man to go for 44 before Crawley fell for 66 after making his first Test match half-century.

Denly was dropped twice before he was caught by Van Der Dussen at slip for 27.

Stokes joined Joe Root at the crease but could only score two runs before he was dismissed, leaving the tourists 157 for four at the stage.

Root and Ollie Pope were still at the crease by the time bad light brought an early finish to day one with England closing on 192 for four.
