Gareth Bale will not win another major trophy in his career if he joins Manchester United this summer, claims Danny Mills.

The Welshman has been linked with a return to the Premier League this summer with his six-year spell at Real Madrid set to come to a sour end.

Manager Zinedine Zidane – blasted as a ‘disgrace’ by Bale’s agent – has confirmed the club ‘are working on’ the outcast forward’s exit having told him he does not have a future at the Bernabeu.

Bale has been linked with a stunning return to Tottenham, although it is claimed he is not willing to accept a drop in wages to move to a new club, and there is little chance of him earning his current £500,000-a-week salary at Spurs.

Manchester United is also a possible destination, while Chinese Super League club Beijing Guoan is reportedly willing to offer him £1m-a-week to move to the Far East.

After a season in and out of the Real team, Bale has been urged to put football first and lower his wage demands to seal a move back to English football.

But Mills understands why the Welshman is not willing to earn less than he is now and says a move to Old Trafford would be the wrong one – as he wouldn’t win anything with United.

Speaking on Tuesday’s Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, Mills said: “People keep saying he’s got to come back to the Premier League and win something here, and then they’re saying he should sign for Manchester United.

“How long is this contract he’s going to sign? Eight years? When are Manchester United going to win the Champions League or Premier League? It’s not going to be within the next three years is it.

“He currently has three choices on the table…

“One: Stay at Real Madrid for around £500,000-a-week, stay there for three years, fight for his place and maybe not play an awful lot of football.

“Two: Go to China, double his wages for the next three seasons and play for a bit of fun, do whatever he wants to do.

“Or Three: Come back to the Premier League and take at least half [what he’s earning now at Real Madrid]. What, £300,000-a-week? Maybe not even that. What clubs are going to pay that?

“He’s not going to Liverpool or Manchester City, Chelsea can’t sign anybody, he’s certainly not going to go to Tottenham or Arsenal for that sort of money.

“So he’s left with Manchester United, and they are not going to win something in the next three seasons that is significant enough for Gareth Bale.”
