talkSPORT host Adrian Durham claims Harry Maguire is taking a ‘sideways step’ by leaving Leicester City to join Manchester United.
The England international finally looks set to join the Red Devils after the clubs agreed his £80million transfer.
Brendan Rodgers confirmed the deal on Friday, describing it as ‘an incredible piece of business’ for the 26-year-old.
The Foxes boss and also praised Maguire’s conduct during the constant speculation over his future this summer.
But Durham claims he is leaving a club ‘on the up’ to join one ‘in decline’ in Manchester United.
The talkSPORT presenter entered a heated debate with Jason Cundy about the England defender’s move on Friday’s Drivetime.
He said: “Given where Leicester were, where they finished last season and the transfer window they’ve had, if Harry Maguire does choose to go to Manchester United it’s a sideways step.
“Who knows what’s going to happen from now onwards, but that to me is a sideways step because Leicester could have achieved what United achieved.
“Not in terms of the size of the club, but in terms of where they’re at. It’s a sideways step and I stand by that.
“A lot of those people who don’t see this as a sideways step for Maguire are still living in the past with regard to Manchester United.
“You probably still think United are still title contenders, you probably think Man United are about to play in the Champions League, but I’ve got news for you – they’re not!
“What was the last time Leicester won the title? When was the last time Manchester United won the title?
“United are on the decline, Leicester are on the up and Harry Maguire has gone sideways.”
