Syracuse, N.Y. — Syracuse men’s basketball coach Jim Boeheim provided a statement Tuesday addressing three of his players entering the NCAA’s transfer portal.
Redshirt freshman John Bol Ajak and redshirt sophomore Robert Braswell entered the portal on Monday. Freshman guard Kadary Richmond opted to seek a transfer on Tuesday.
“I want to thank John Bol, Rob and Kadary for all they contributed to the Syracuse program,” the statement said. “I especially want to thank Rob and Kadary for the key role they played in the success we had at the end of the year. We wish them all the best. Our staff is looking forward to working with the returning players who gave us a great postseason performance and who provide us with proven experience.”
Boeheim said Saturday following the Orange’s loss to Houston that Syracuse likely will have several players enter the transfer portal, but the team also will be active in recruiting players to play for the program as well.
Just because a player has entered the transfer portal doesn’t necessarily mean they will transfer. Ajak, Braswell and Richmond all have the option to remain with the team. Sophomore forward Quincy Guerrier will test the NBA waters to see where he stands as a player.
Joe Girard, the Orange’s starting point guard, will return to the team for his junior season next year. He joins Buddy Boeheim as the two players that are confirmed to be back for 2021-22.
