Liverpool will begin the defence of their Champions League crown next month, but could find themselves in a group of death.

The Reds beat Tottenham Hotspur in June at the Wanda Metropolitano stadium to become kings of Europe for the sixth time in their history.

Jurgen Klopp’s side famously beat the mighty Barcelona in a thrilling semi-final second leg clash at Anfield before facing Spurs and will be rewarded for their efforts with a Pot 1 placement.

However, there are still a raft of quality opponents who will be looking to topple the reigning rulers of Europe.

When and where is the draw?

The group stage draw will take place in Monaco on Thursday, 29 August at 5pm GMT.

How can I watch the draw?

The draw will be streamed live through UEFA’s official website and will also be available to watch live on BT Sport.

Liverpool’s worst case scenario?

Jurgen Klopp would be forgiven for thinking his Liverpool side possess the necessary firepower to dispatch any side in Europe.

However, Diego Simeone has built his managerial career on blunting some of the most potent attacking forces on the continent.

Having reached the final of this competition twice in the past six years, Joao Felix and co. will be hoping the Argentine can mastermind another European miracle.

Pot 3 – Inter Milan

Antonio Conte is back in club management after a brief hiatus following his sacking by Chelsea.

As evidenced by the Blues’ struggles over the past 18 months, the Italian is clearly a talented tactician and will be tasked with bringing domestic and European glory back to the San Siro.

With Romelu Lukaku and potentially Alexis Sanchez leading the line for the Serie A side, the Italian giants may well be the dark horses for this year’s competition.

While teams from Pot 4 are not considered serious threats to lift the famous trophy in 2020, there are no easy games in the Champions League.

Travelling to Moscow as winter begins to set in is the last thing Klopp will want to be doing in the middle of a busy Premier League campaign.

The Russian Premier League side also possess a number of star players such as Jefferson Farfan, Benedikt Howedes and Fyodor Smolov; meaning they are not to be taken lightly.
