Tony Cascarino is surprised Manchester United did not try to sign another striker to replace Inter-bound Alexis Sanchez.
The forward is likely to join the Serie A side on a season-long loan with United still paying a significant portion of his wages.
He will follow Romelu Lukaku to the Serie A club after the Belgium international joined earlier this month.
This leaves Man United short on attacking options with Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial the senior men and teenager Mason Greenwood as the third choice.
The Red Devils are unlikely to try and sign a free agent to bolster their options and talkSPORT host Cascarino cannot understand why they are not looking at alternatives.
He told The Times: “Sanchez has been a symbol of United’s struggles and of their careless approach to recruitment, and so, given the absence of any kind of form, I can understand why the United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wanted him out of Old Trafford.
“However, given that they have allowed Romelu Lukaku to leave too, I find it amazing that United didn’t sign a proper centre forward.
Adrian Durham says Man United are making a huge mistake letting Alexis Sanchez leave
“Marcus Rashford is capable of the spectacular and has great potential but is yet to find consistency. Anthony Martial is another talented young player but I think he’s most effective out wide, not through the middle.
“I don’t think either of them guarantees 20 goals a season. After that, United have 17-year-old Mason Greenwood, a highly rated teenager, but it’s a massive leap to suddenly be United’s third-choice forward.
“Through all their dominance under Sir Alex Ferguson and even with managers after him, United have always had four or more strikers. And they were always recruiting more.”
