Heading into his visit to the University of Oregon last weekend, ESPN four-star wide receiver Nicholas Anderson was widely believed to be a future Notre Dame pledge.
The 6-foot-4, 195-pound pass-catcher, out of Katy High School (Katy, Texas), had taken June official visits to Notre Dame, Penn State and USC – all of whom had offered him a scholarship – and picked up four 247Sports crystal ball predictions in favor of the Fighting Irish.
But Oregon got the final visit, and Mario Cristobal and his coaching staff closed strong.
On Thursday, Anderson, the nation’s No. 61 overall prospect and No. 7 wide receiver, announced his commitment to the Ducks, becoming the third pledge of the day alongside offensive linemen Michael Wooten and Cameron Williams:
Anderson also held offers from Auburn, Florida State, Miami (Fla.), Michigan, Stanford, Tennessee, Texas, Texas A&M and others.
Based on its scholarship offers and official visit schedule, it became clear months ago that Oregon sought to make Texas a pipeline state in the 2022 recruiting cycle.
So far, that mission appears to be on track, as Anderson is the fourth Texas pledge in the class thus far, joining four-star offensive lineman Cameron Williams, four-star safety Landon Hullaby and three-star wide receiver Stephon Johnson.
Oregon’s 2022 recruiting class consists of 13 pledges and should jump into the top-20 nationally when 247Sports updates its rankings.
