Peter Crouch has told talkSPORT he enjoyed the ‘best time of his life’ playing for Liverpool and hopes the Reds can end their long wait for the Premier League this season.
The former England striker hung up his boots earlier this year after a memorable career including stints with Liverpool and Tottenham, to name just a few.
His allegiance was torn in the Champions League final as his two former clubs went toe-to-toe, but Crouch admitted he was ‘so pleased’ Jurgen Klopp’s lifted the trophy after their wonderful campaign.
The Merseyside club also came agonisingly close to their first league title since 1990 last season as they finished just one point behind back-to-back winners Manchester City.
And Crouchy is hoping they go one better to finally end their long wait to be crowned champions of England again.
“I hope so, I really hope so,” he told talkSPORT hosts Jim White and Natalie Sawyer on Thursday.
“I played up there and it’s the one thing they want, it’s been far too long. I grew up on Liverpool winning titles and that’s where they need to be.
“I was so pleased for them winning the Champions League because if they had not won anything last year it would have been a travesty with the way they performed.
“But Man City are just so strong. I think we all know it’s between the two of them and I hope they can do it, but I think it’s more hope rather than judgement. City are just so strong, so it’s going to be difficult.
“For me, the best time of my life was playing for Liverpool. At the time I was playing for Liverpool, playing for England and playing the best football of my life.
“I’ve only got fond memories. It was just incredible being up there.
“We got to a Champions League final, we won the FA Cup, we finished second in the Premier League and I played with some of the best players in the world, so I absolutely loved it.”
