Logan Ryan put in COVID protocol in huge Giants worry – New York Post

Giants safety Logan Ryan will not practice Friday and has been placed in the COVID-19 protocol, according to the team.

It was not immediately clear if he received a positive test result, but close-contact rules are not as strict for vaccinated players (like Ryan) as for unvaccinated players. The Giants have other unvaccinated players in the secondary.

The Giants had a rash of false-positive rapid tests two weeks ago and turned to the more accurate PCR tests for clarification. The NFL is tightening its COVID-19 protocols in the week after Thanksgiving because players are going to be around extended networks for the holiday.

If Ryan is unable to play Monday against the Buccaneers, it is a huge loss because he runs the complex disguised coverages on the back end of the defense and considers his job to be playing 1-on-1 mind games with the opposing quarterback. In this case, it’s his former teammate and the G.O.A.T Tom Brady.

The Giants could turn to Julian Love in Ryan’s place. Fellow safety Jabrill Peppers is already on injured reserve.
