Danny Murphy suggests Real Madrid should be trying to sign Kevin De Bruyne instead of Paul Pogba.
Madrid are reportedly desperate to sign Manchester United star Pogba this summer, with manager Zinedine Zidane a known admirer of the Frenchman.
The midfielder has previously said it would be a ‘dream’ to play under Zidane – and reports claim he would even take a pay cut to make the move happen.
However, Madrid fans aren’t overly keen on the 26-year-old.
AS.com asked 160,000 fans who the club’s most important purchase would be this summer and only 11 per cent went for Pogba.
Murphy, the former Premier League midfielder, believes Manchester City’s De Bruyne would be a better buy.
The Belgian only made 19 Premier League appearances this season due to injury and started on the bench for the FA Cup final victory over Watford.
Murphy told talkSPORT: “If you think of Real Madrid going for Pogba and saying, ‘We’ll build a team around him’ – they’d have to spend a hell of a lot of money.
“If you’re Real Madrid and you’re the biggest club in the world and you’ve got unlimited funds, I’d be trying to tempt De Bruyne.
“City might never let him go because he’s that good, but he hasn’t played much.
“I’d be saying to him, ‘We’ll pay you whatever you want and we’ll build this team around you’.”
