Heung-min Son is hoping to complete his mandatory four-week national service in South Korea during the coronavirus pandemic.
The Tottenham star returned to his homeland following the suspension of Premier League matches last month.
It remains to be seen if Premier League football will resume on April 30, and Son is waiting to see if the suspension is extended.
Son, who is currently in a two-week quarantine after flying to his homeland from London last weekend, has to by law serve a mandatory four-week national service in the South Korean military.
It should have been 21 months, but he was exempt from that amount of time due to his part in South Korea’s triumph in the 2018 Asian Games.
Son has not played since fracturing his arm in February, but sees the current suspension of the Premier League as a perfect time to complete his service.
Give COVID-19 the red card
The quicker we work together to stop coronavirus spreading, the sooner we can get back into the pubs, the gyms and stadiums and arenas to see live sport again…
STAY AT HOME. Only leave for the following purposes:
- to shop for basic essentials – only when you really need to
- to do one form of exercise a day – such as a run, walk or cycle, alone or with other people you live with
- for any medical need – for example, to visit a pharmacy or deliver essential supplies to a vulnerable person
- to travel to and from work – but only where this is absolutely necessary

The government has also issued further detail on what we can do during lockdown.
Everyone should do what they can to stop coronavirus spreading.
He wants to start on April 20 and is reportedly serving in the Military Corps.
Talks about when English football will return are ongoing between the Premier League, EFL, Professional Footballers’ Association and League Managers’ Association.
A further suspension to the Premier League would allow Son to complete his national service without it impacting on his career.
Earlier this week, Son uploaded pictures and a video on his Instagram Story showing him skipping without a cast on his arm.
