Tyson Fury’s promoter Frank Warren expects a rematch with Deontay Wilder to take place early next year.
WBC champion Wilder fired an emphatic message to the heavyweight division with an explosive first-round knockout of Dominic Breazeale on Saturday night.
Now, fans are desperate to see a rematch with Fury or a unification fight with WBA, IBF and WBO champion Anthony Joshua.
‘AJ’ will make his US debut against Andy Ruiz Jr on June 1, while the ‘Gypsy King’ faces Tom Schwarz in Las Vegas two weeks later.
Warren hopes that, once prior commitments are out of the way, Fury will get back in the ring with Wilder.
“That fight will happen, I’m absolutely convinced of it,” he told talkSPORT. “I’m sure it’s going to happen early next year.
“I was hoping it would happen by the end of the year but Tyson’s got a commitment on the 15th June and then Deontay’s got a fight in autumn.
“Hopefully after those two fights, these guys will get it on.”
Meanwhile, Wilder’s promoter Shelly Finkel also suggests the wait for a fight with Fury or Joshua will extend into 2020.
“We’ll decide in the next couple of weeks,” he told BBC Sport.
“I would say probably next year but nothing’s definite.”
The three heavyweights are all signed to different US broadcasters, making negotiations difficult.
Talks between Joshua and Wilder’s camps have faltered since 2016 – and Warren suggests it would be easier if both fighters accepted an equal split of the purse.
“That’s what it should be for all of them: 50/50. They all bring something to the table.
“What warrants AJ taking it all off the table?
“They’re all exciting fighters so it’s 50/50 for all the fights. I don’t see why there should be the slightest problem with that.”
Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn insists he is desperate to make a unification fight with Wilder after AJ’s bout with Ruiz.
“The fight with AJ and Wilder is the biggest fight in the sport and all being well in two weeks’ time it must happen next – no excuses, this is the fight that will change the sport globally,” he told Sky Sports.
