Daniel Stendel has left Barnsley after 16 months as head coach, the Championship club have confirmed.
Stendel, who was appointed at Oakwell last June, guided Barnsley to promotion from League One last season, finishing as runners-up to champions Luton.
However, he has found the Championship hard work this term, securing only one victory from 11 matches to leave Barnsley in the relegation zone – and only one point ahead of bottom side Stoke.
A club statement read: “Barnsley Football Club confirms that it has separated from Daniel Stendel with immediate effect.
“Adam Murray has been appointed caretaker manager.”
Murray, Barnsley’s Under-18s head coach, has a fortnight break before taking charge of his first match as interim manager, with Swansea visiting Oakwell on October 19.
