Former WBC cruiserweight champion Tony Bellew has despairingly told talkSPORT that he can’t help but admire Liverpool this season.

The lifelong Everton supporter, who won the world title at his beloved Goodison Park, is being forced to watch on as his side slipped into the relegation zone at the weekend, while their bitter rivals extended their league lead to eight points.

Everton were beaten at Burnley on Saturday while Liverpool got a late winner against Leicester, but Bellew is past hating Jurgen Klopp’s side.

When asked about the Reds’ title chances, he joked on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast: “They’ve already won it, the parade happened last week.

“You’ve gotta be happy mate, you can’t hate against someone like Liverpool because you look at what they’re doing.

“Anyone who knows and understands football – I don’t claim to be great at football – but anyone who loves football can’t help but admire the way they play.

“I’d love to hate the manager, but you can’t even hate him as well because every time you look at him, he makes you smile.

“It’s insane what they’re doing, sending me insane.

“I have no answers, I don’t know what to say, what to do.

“I just want to go back fighting if I’m being totally honest because that’s the only thing that makes sense when I’m punching people in the face.”
