Errol Spence is in a ‘serious condition’ after being involved in a high-speed car crash in his hometown of Dallas.
The police have said a Ferrari flipped multiple times, ejecting the driver (Spence) who was not wearing a seatbelt, according to CBS.
CCTV video footage has since emerged of the incident, showing the vehicle flipping down the road.
They added that the driver was taken to hospital and is expected to survive the crash, which took place in the northbound lanes of the 500 block of S. Riverfront Boulevard.
An update issued by Spence’s representatives PBC confirmed his parents are with him at the Dallas hospital he was taken to and his injuries are not considered life-threatening.
In the latest videos posted to his Instagram story last night, the boxer was partying at a bar with friends.
There is no indication alcohol played a part in the incident so far, with police continuing to investigate the cause.
On September 28, Spence defeated Shawn Porter in a WBC & IBF welterweight title unification and ‘Fight of the Year’ candidate.
It was the biggest moment of the 29-year-old’s career to date and his opponent has wished him well on social media.
Porter posted: “My dad always tells me, ‘This boxing thing is a part of your life but it’s not going to last forever. You still have a lot of life to live after that.’
“With that, I’m praying for Errol Spence and his family because he has a lot of life to live and I pray he recovers quickly & fully.”
Another former opponent Kell Brook also took to social media to react.
The ex-IBF champion, who Spence dethroned in 2017, said: “Get well soon champ! Thought are with you and wishing you a full and speedy recovery.”
Spence is 26-0 with 21 KOs, but now his future has been plunged into uncertainty and it is as yet unknown whether he will be able to fight again.
