When Jurgen Klopp first took charge of Liverpool in 2015, few could have imagined the impact he would have on the club, though they lived in hope.

Since arriving from Borussia Dortmund, the manager has transformed Liverpool back into one of Europe’s top teams.

In his first season, he took Liverpool to both the League Cup and Europa League finals, losing both, but captured his first silverware when the Reds beat Tottenham in the 2019 Champions League final and missed out on title glory by a point despite winning 97 points across the campaign.

Liverpool then won the Super Cup and Klopp was named manager of the year at the recent FIFA football awards.

Currently top of the league, Liverpool are yet to drop any points and are eight clear of City.

Sir Alex Ferguson, who won the league 13 times during his time at United and retired two years before Klopp’s arrival, predicted Liverpool could overtake the Red Devils.

“He has done a really good job and revived Liverpool’s enthusiasm,” Ferguson said in 2016.

“It can happen that big clubs lose it. For two decades, Liverpool changed managers without building their own identity.

“You can now well and truly sense that you have to count them in this year. You can see Klopp’s dedication on the sideline, I’m convinced his work in training is similar. He’s a strong personality. That’s absolutely vital at a big club.

“I’m worried about him because the one thing United don’t want is Liverpool to get above us.”

A lowly two wins from their first eight Premier League games this season sees United down in the bottom half of the table as pressure mounts on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

His side will host Liverpool on Sunday and Solskjaer will hope for a first win over them since March 2018.
