A classy brace from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain as well as goals from Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah saw Liverpool win 4-1 at Genk – the Reds’ first three points on the road in the competition since October 2017.

Oxlade-Chamberlain’s early strike gave the visitors the lead but this was not as easy a game as the result suggests for Liverpool.

They needed VAR to save them from being pegged back as Mbwana Samatta’s header bulged the net but there was an offside in the build-up.

The victory was all-but sealed when Oxlade-Chamberlain’s stunning strike with the outside of his boot went in off the bar and the Mane and Salah goals gave the scoreline some gloss.

Stephen Odey pulled back a late consolation for the hosts – just rewards for their endeavours against the European champions.

There was success for the other Premier League team in action on Wednesday night with Chelsea claiming a brilliant win at Ajax.
