Granit Xhaka put his status as Arsenal captain under huge threat exactly one month on from when it was announced he was getting the honour.
The Gunners blew a two-goal lead at home to Crystal Palace but the midfielder made all the headlines for his stunning outburst during the game.
He was substituted off in the 61st minute to the delight of the Arsenal faithful and Xhaka reacted awfully.
The Switzerland international trudged off the pitch before cupping his ears at the booing crowd, who were not happy with his lack of urgency to leave the field of play.
Xhaka is understood to have sworn at his own fans as Bukayo Saka came on in his place.
He then removed his shirt and headed straight down the tunnel as Arsenal toiled to a 2-2 draw.
After the game, Arsenal boss Emery admitted Xhaka was ‘wrong’ for doing what he did.
Emery told talkSPORT: “He was wrong, he was wrong.
“But we are going to speak to him and then inside with the club. He was wrong.
“He was very hot in that moment and he was rash and he was wrong.”
When asked if Xhaka would remain as the club’s skipper, Emery said: “We are going to speak about that with him.”
Emery now has a huge decision to make over the next few days.
However, this is not the first time an Arsenal captain has caused controversy.

Xhaka’s predecessor Koscielny didn’t cover himself in glory as he sought a transfer to Ligue 1 side Bordeaux in the summer.
Koscielny was desperate for a move to his homeland after nine years of service at Arsenal, however, the actions which led to his departure from the club were acrimonious.
He refused to travel with his team-mates for the Gunners’ pre-season tour of the USA in the summer.
And when he finally did join Bordeaux, he starred in a disrespectful video which saw him remove an Arsenal shirt to reveal the home strip of his new club, which was blasted by Arsenal legends including David Seaman.
Robin van Persie
But one former skipper who will be hated much more for leaving Arsenal is Van Persie.
The Dutchman was the darling of the Emirates Stadium and was the top scorer in the Premier League in 2011/12.
He then did the unforgivable though by leaving the club for a long-standing rival of Arsenal’s, Manchester United.
Van Persie went on to have a stellar first season at Old Trafford, finishing top scorer in the top flight again as he helped Man United claim their 20th and to date, most recent league title.
William Gallas
Xhaka is facing the prospect of losing his captaincy while a season is going on – something that happened to former defender Gallas in November 2008.
The final straw which led to him losing the honour saw Gallas criticise some of his team-mates through the media while on international duty.
However, Gallas was on a tightrope the season before when he burst into tears after Arsenal conceded a late equaliser at Birmingham in February 2008, a contest which is viewed as the game that derailed the Gunners’ title challenge.
It should be noted that it was a very distressing afternoon for all the Arsenal players as the game was overshadowed by a horrifying leg break that former striker Eduardo sustained.
