Is there a better striker in world football than Robert Lewandowski?

Going by his form this season, probably not, as the Bayern Munich frontman has been nothing short of sensational.

Lewandowski was on the scoresheet on Wednesday night as Bayern booked their place in the last-16 of the Champions League with a 2-0 win over Olympiakos.

The Poland international got the breakthrough with a poacher’s finish, getting on the end of Kingsley Coman’s fizzing cross from the right, before Ivan Perisic added a second late on to seal the win for the Bavaria side.

Lewandowski, who joined Bayern from Borussia Dortmund in June 2014, has been banging in the goals in Germany and Europe for a number of years now and is joint-top scorer in the Champions League group stage with the great Lionel Messi since the beginning of the 2014/15 season with 31.

Bayern are flying high in Europe, but the situation is somewhat fragile right now as they are not performing as well as expected at home.

They are currently fourth in the Bundesliga, albeit four points behind leaders Borussia Monchengladbach, and sacked Niko Kovac as manager following a resounding 5-1 defeat at Eintracht Frankfurt, Lewandowski scoring Bayern’s goal.

So you wonder where Bayern would be without Lewandowski’s red-hot form and the team’s indifferent results only highlights just how brilliant their main striker has been.

In fact, Lewandowski has scored in every Bundesliga and Champions League game this season, which is 14 different matches where he’s found the net.

And unsurprisingly, he’s the top scorer in all competitions out of any player in Europe’s big five leagues (Bundesliga, La Liga, Ligue 1, Premier League and Serie A) in 2019/20 with 21 goals.
