Ole Gunnar Solskjaer praised Manchester United’s character following their 3-3 draw with Sheffield United.
The Red Devils were abysmal for the opening hour as they trailed by two goals but came fighting back, with Brandon Williams, Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford scoring in the space of seven second-half minutes.
It looked to be enough to secure only a second Premier League win since February until substitute Oli McBurnie volleyed home a dramatic 90th-minute equaliser for the Blades.
Solskjaer thought his side were unlucky to concede late on at Bramall Lane, but was happy with the fight his side showed.
He told talkSPORT: “Yeah, of course, you’re disappointed that you didn’t get the three points, but then again, things like that can happen in any game.
“We could have got the fourth goal because we went forward. We couldn’t really drop too deep, but they pushed us back, there were two or three deflections or whatever, scuffs, things happen.
“Away at Bramall Lane, that’s always going to be part of the game. We were unlucky towards the end.
“But the way they’ve turned the 2-0 to 3-2, those emotions probably stay with me longer rather than the disappointment at the end, because I’ve learned a lot about the character of the boys.”
Goals from John Fleck and Lys Mousset gave United a mountain to climb.
But their comeback was reminiscent of the glory days under Sir Alex Ferguson, whose teams were renowned for never giving up.
Solskjaer said: “It’s mixed emotions. It was an emotional rollercoaster. The first 70 minutes weren’t good enough.
“It’s something you really have to dig deep and analyse, but then we had the character to come back and that’s different from last season.
“This is a team with character, there are boys who want to go forward in their careers. They know they didn’t perform, but they never gave in.”
