Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers has ruled himself out of the running to be Arsenal’s next manager – despite appearing to confirm he has a release clause in his contract.
The Northern Irishman has been strongly linked with the Emirates hotseat after Unai Emery was sacked by the Gunners on Friday.
Arsenal legend Perry Groves told talkSPORT last week the Gunners job would be impossible to turn down for Rodgers.
And it initially appeared the 46-year-old coach had ‘opened the door’ to the move, after he responded to reports claiming there was a £14m release clause in his contract, saying: “There probably is [a clause] in most manager’s contracts. It is all hypothetical.”
However, following that interview with Sky Sports, Rodgers later insisted he is staying with Leicester.
After watching his side seal a sixth straight victory with a late win over Everton, which maintained their second place spot in the Premier League, he was asked if he sees himself staying at the King Power Stadium.
“Yeah, very much so,” he said.
“It [the Arsenal speculation] doesn’t annoy me. I don’t think so much about it. It’s not in my control.
“I came here to help the project and see if we could bring it forward. I’m at a great club. I absolutely love it here.
“It seems now you’re talking about a manager losing their job all the time and looking to be replaced.
“Names will get thrown right, left and centre. For the Arsenal job there are probably about ten names.
“Me, I’m just concentrating on Leicester.”
