Marco Silva: Everton manager facing the sack after Merseyside derby defeat, with future to be decided on

Marco Silva could be sacked as soon as today as Everton chiefs prepare to hold talks over the under-fire manager’s future.

Silva, who was surprisingly still in charge of the Toffees for Wednesday’s Merseyside derby, did not help his cause in the Anfield clash as his side crashed to a 5-2 thrashing.

The Portuguese has already survived one round of emergency talks with the Everton board, according to the BBC, but it is unlikely he will survive further discussions.

Silva could be succeeded at Goodison Park by David Moyes, the former Everton manager who has been out of work since summer 2018 when he left West Ham.

The Scot, who spent 11 years in charge of Everton before joining Manchester United, could return on an interim basis if the club do not announce a long-term replacement for Silva.

The Portuguese has been quizzed about his future for a number of weeks, and he was again questioned after the Merseyside derby.

“I am not the right person to talk to you about the situation,” said Silva. “I cannot answer to you.

“Since I joined the club and until the last day I am here I will always be 100 per cent professional, giving my best every single day.

“I understand why the questions are coming. If we are winning all the games, you are not asking them.

“It is not for me to take those situations. I don’t like to talk after every single match about my future.”
