Next Everton manager: Toffees targeting Vitor Pereira as Marco Silva’s permanent replacement – reports

Everton are officially on the search for a new permanent manager after Marco Silva’s sacking on Thursday.

The Portuguese, 42, was relieved of his duties less than 24 hours after the Toffees’ embarrassing 5-2 defeat at Merseyside rivals Liverpool.

The result puts Everton in the relegation zone and club chiefs decided Silva’s race was run.

A statement read: “Everton Football Club can confirm that manager Marco Silva has left the club.

“Majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri, chairman Bill Kenwright and the board of directors would like to thank Marco for his service over the last 18 months and we wish him well for the future.

“The club aims to confirm a new permanent manager as swiftly as possible.”

A number of names have been linked with the job on a permanent basis including former Everton boss David Moyes, who left Goodison Park for Manchester United in 2013 after eleven years of service.

However, Sky Sports News claims the club are after Portuguese manager Vitor Pereira.

Pereira, 51, is currently in charge of Shanghai SIPG in the Chinese Super League and is currently in one of the highest paid jobs in world football.

He was recently offered the post of managing the Chinese national team and has managed in Turkey with Fenerbahce as well as in Greece with Olympiakos.

Pereira has also had a stint with Porto.

The report also states he was considered by Everton as David Moyes’ replacement before the club appointed Roberto Martinez.
