The Champions League group stage is over – meaning we now get into the real drama of the knockout rounds.
All four English sides booked their place in the last-16 by progressing through the groups, with reigning European champions Liverpool joined by Premier League holders Man City as group winners.
Tottenham and Chelsea finished runners-up in their respective groups, however, so were in Monday’s draw unseeded – increasing fears of a possible clash against one of Europe’s elite.
The Blues suffered from their second place finish, being drawn against German giants Bayern Munich; the two sides have faced each other three times in the Champions League, most recently in the 2012 final.
Frank Lampard, the Chelsea manager, was captain that day as the west Londoners overcame all the odds to win on Bayern’s own turf and claim their one and only European Cup to date.
Spurs have also been handed a tricky opponent, though last year’s losing finalists did avoid the heavyweight clubs such as PSG, Juventus and Barcelona.
RB Leipzig, who are currently top of the Bundesliga, will visit White Hart Lane before hosting Spurs a few weeks later in their first ever Champions League knockout matches.
Despite winning their groups, meaning they were seeded in the draw, Liverpool and Man City were also pulled out alongside strong opponents.
Jurgen Klopp’s high-flyers take on Atletico Madrid over two legs, while City make the short trip across Spain’s capital to face Atleti’s city rivals, Real Madrid.
Other eye-catching fixtures include Borussia Dortmund vs PSG and Napoli vs Barcelona, while the two teams everybody wanted to draw – Atalanta and Valencia – have been selected to take on one another.
The first legs of the last-16 ties will be played on February 18-19 and February 25-26, with the second legs on March 10-11 and March 17-18.
