Mikel Arteta has made two changes for his first home match in charge of Arsenal.

After starting his Gunners reign with a 1-1 draw at Bournemouth on Boxing Day, Arteta has opted to field largely the same side against Chelsea on Sunday afternoon.

Granit Xhaka, who started against the Cherries, is omitted from the squad as rumours he could move to Hertha Berlin in January intensify.

Matteo Guendouzi comes back into the midfield in place of the Swiss international, while the other change is in defence and sees Calum Chambers replace Sokratis Papastathopoulos.

Mesut Ozil starts again alongside Guendouzi in midfield, while big summer signing Nicolas Pepe is again named among the substitutes.

Arteta’s opposite number Frank Lampard has also made two changes to his team as Chelsea look to bounce back from their 2-0 home loss to Southampton on Boxing Day.

Mason Mount and Mateo Kovacic have been restored to the starting line-up, with Callum Hudson-Odoi and Jorginho dropping to the bench.

Christian Pulisic again misses out and is not even named on the bench, while full-backs Marcos Alonso and Reece James remain sidelined.
