David Moyes finalising West Ham backroom team and says Stuart Pearce considered for assistant role,

David Moyes has told talkSPORT Stuart Pearce is unlikely to return to West Ham.

The newly appointed Hammers boss is in the process of sorting his backroom staff, but did say Pearce, who worked under him in his first spell as manager was one of the candidates.

“We have considered Stuart strongly, but I think this time it’s more likely that [he won’t return], but it’s something I’ll finalise a little bit later on.”

In November 2017, Moyes took over from Slaven Bilic with the club in the relegation zone and guided them to safety, but left his role at the end of the season having secured Premier League safety.

Pearce, his assistant at the time, also left, but admitted at the time he was surprised the club ditched him for Manuel Pellegrini, whom he has now replaced.

“It’s a wonderful club – I had a fantastic seven months there are really enjoyed my time – and they’ve now got a very good manager,” he told talkSPORT.

“They’ve decided not to go down the David [Moyes] route, I was a little surprised by that as I saw first-hand what a good job he did in a situation that could have gone either way.”

West Ham will hope to continue their good form under their new manager when they play Gillingham in the FA Cup third round, a game live on talkSPORT on Sunday at 6.16pm.

The club beat Bournemouth 4-0 on New Year’s Day in what was the Hammers’ biggest Premier League win in more than a decade.

Captain Mark Noble scored twice with Sebastien Haller and Felipe Anderson also getting on the score sheet.

On his team for the weekend, Moyes said if Lukasz Fabianski is fit then he will start, but added a new goalkeeper is something the club will work on in January.

Not mentioning Roberto, who fans would love to see depart, the manager said: “I don’t even think I’ve been here a week, so I pick up a lot of information from the club and the people around me who tell me what is required.

“I think bringing in another goalkeeper is a priority and that’s something we’ll try and do.”
