A young rugby league fan has penned an adorable letter to one of his favourite players after the star forward gave him his jersey and signed his ball.

Newcastle Knights prop David Klemmer made the six-year-old boy’s day when he spotted the young fan waiting in the stands after a clash in Mudgee, rural NSW.

Year One student Sam Piggott was so thrilled with the kind gesture that he sent a handwritten letter to the Newcastle Knights to thank Klemmer.

‘Dear Mr Klemmer, this is Sam, you gave me your jersey and thank you for that,’ his letter read.

‘You also signed my football at Mudgee, I am in year 1 at Anglican Grammar. If you are at Orange we have a big oval we could kick the ball together.

‘Good luck at State of Origin. From Knights fan James.’

The Mudgee game was played as part of a partnership between the Mid-Western Regional Council and the St George Illawarra Dragons.

It was only the third time the Knights had played in the region over the last thirty years.

Klemmer has cleaned up his image since signing with the Newcastle Knights in 2019.

Before moving clubs, he played 113 games with the Canterbury Bulldogs where he built a reputation as one of the league’s fiercest front-rowers.
